Ah! The last several blog posts are hard for me to re-read. I'm a tad embarrassed but I guess I had some stuff to work out. I want to try harder to pass the Bechdel test, more often. All the time. SO. I'm going to list a few zines that I love that have been helping me through life.
1) the art of: essays about being human & getting sober by marlee grace
bio: 15 essays on navigating being human, getting sober, and staying positive. topics include gettin active, eliminating drugs and alcohol, and so much more!
2) sober queers do exist* by various
bio: includes the stories and experiences from 19 contributors. it’s a zine that creates space for queer and trans sober people (and those trying to get sober) to share their experiences. sharing our experiences about getting and staying sober is a way to build community, and let others getting sober know they are not alone.
3) guide to being alone** by julia arredondo
bio: "This is a really funny zine, but it also has lots of solid advice. Arredondo gives specific tips for people leaving romantic relationships, people struggling to make good friends, and people generally coming into their own as misanthropes." - Stranger Danger Zine Distro
Points covered in this zine include:
*Dealing with being newly single
*Realizing that your friends suck
*Realizing that everyone sucks
*Being at home alone
*Being in public alone
*I bought this zine from Marlee at Have Company but it's no longer up at that shop so I linked to another site I found that had it listed for sale.
**This zine does talk about alcohol consumption so if that is a huge trigger for you, don't pick up guide to being alone. but i think it's easy to distinguish and still a very good resource for getting comfortable with your new and improved self. I met the author at a zine fair in Iowa City and she's one of the most rad people ever!
